£1.80 for six pies.
Here’s 2016’s review: Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference 6 All Butter Mince Pies
Holding the box in my hands, I am aware of how delicious these pies have been in the past. In 2015 I voted these my favourites and last year they still had the same sticky, decadent mincemeat that I craved when I went for a mince pie. They have a lot to live up to.
The golden box has a touch of luxury with golden dotting down the right hand side and a left aligned title in deep purple. There is a window! I can peer deep into the pies, which have changed from the last two years. They no longer contain a sealed lid, but instead have two overlapping pastry stars. The design of the pastry lids may look better through a display window, but you run the risk of drying out the mincemeat and the stars aren’t particularly even, either.
Underneath the title on the box, there is a picture of pies on a board, one of which has been opened. The mincemeat on show gets me every time.
The tray is a dark gold and the pies are plastic wrapped for freshness.
Alcohol comes and gives you a bear hug, when you rip the pies’ plastic clothing off. Wow. It made me salivate.
Okay let’s dive in. I get strong, buttery pastry. I get thick, luscious mincemeat heavy with tempting fruit and brandy. The taste is delicious. These are a very moreish pie.
