£1.35 for 4 pies or 33.7p a pie
Many thanks to Mr Chay Boare for these wonderful pies. This is actually the third box he’s bought for me, so I am eternally grateful for your kind generosity.
This box happens to be my first of the year made with gluten free ingredients and I’m always open to trying them. Instead of wheat flour, the pies are created using rice flour.
The box is purple, setting it apart from the standard ones and the picture on the front shows some pale, filled-to-the-brim mince pies. My taste buds are a tingling!
The pies are very pale, probably owing to the flour used and there is a generous sprinkling of granulated sugar. The pastry is quite thick, but this can be forgiven if the filling is anything like the picture on the front.
The pastry is sweet and hold well, if a little dry, almost chalky. The filling is quite generous and there is quite a lot of whole fruits. The mincemeat could do with being wetter as this pie leaves you with little saliva.
Taste (1 – 10) – 6/10 – A sweet pie that could benefit from some liquid. Custard perhaps?
Value for money (1 – 5) – 3/5
Total – 9/15
