I promised you a review of these pies. Here it is.
In 2016 & 2017, ALDI brought out Chocolate and Orange mince pies. In 2016, these were my favourite pies and I couldn’t praise them highly enough. Last year, they were very nice, but not my favourites.
It’s 2018 now. The chocolate orange pie has been replaced or retired, you decide. This year, there is a black forest mince pie with chocolate pastry and chunks of chocolate. You’ve got my attention, ALDI.
Here’s a cross section of my pie
Attractive, right? I think this box has been standing on it’s side before I bought them as the heavier mincemeat is on the left, the cherry and Kirsch on the right. If you looks closely, you can see a hefty chocolate chunk, almost floating between the two gooey fillings.
The pie has chocolate pastry too.
It’s very different from the types of pies I’ve had recently; mince pie purists probably wont touch the product. These are quite sweet.
As with the Heston pies I reviewed recently, these are quite removed from your tried and tested mincemeat/pastry combo but they are very tasty.
They make a great pudding item, and if you don’t like the normal mince pies, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t try these.
If you like chocolate and cherry, buy them. Where else can you buy chocolate and cherry pies? Other than at christmas time 2018….
Taste (1 – 10) – 10/10 – ALDI make cracking mince pies. These are no exception.
Value for money (1 – 5) – 3/5
Total – 13/15
