I believe these were the first mince pies I ‘officially’ reviewed, back in the day. The first winners as well.
Since then, many more mincemeat moments have crossed my lips and your eyes.
But I always come back to Sainsbury’s for their mince pies.
My wife loved these, pulling a satisfied face and professing that she couldn’t eat another as it was ‘quite substantial’.
£2.00 buys you 6 star shaped pies. They are well presented (box and pastry) with plenty of box appeal. And vegetarian.
Each pie is pale, even coloured and delicately sugared.
The bottom of my pie was a little greasy, but the enticing, sweet scent of Christmas wafted across to quell any anger that might have risen within me.
Ooh. I’m used to having a Taste the difference mince pie that’s quite dry, but this drier still. The mincemeat is really lacking the required moisture you need here.
I worry about poor grandad Norbert who probably doesn’t create the level of saliva needed to make this pleasurable to eat.
I’m not having an amazing time with this one, it would benefit from a moist maker, such as cream.
The mincemeat is flavourful but that’s about it. Sorry Sainsbury’s.
Taste (1 – 10) – 4/10 – not particularly nice and too dry
Value for money (1 – 5) – 3/5
Total – 7/15
