As the name mentions, I purchased this classy box of pies from Marks & Spencer.
They were £4, which works out at 67p per pie. Once my eyes had stopped watering from the price, I journeyed back home to eat.
To the box. There’s a window, allowing you to view the pies before making the purchase. No guesswork there.
The box has a red stripe across them, as if to replicate the look of a nicely wrapped festive ribbon on a present, with the logo as the piece holding it together. It looks festive even though the individual parts don’t scream Christmas. No Holly, No Snowflakes, No trees etc.
Visually, the pies look middle of the road; not particularly beautiful. but I appreciate the effort to make a piece of pastry look like an intricate snowflake, and not an angular blob.
There’s a cardboard tab at the side which allows easy access to open the box, which I’m grateful for. Too much time is taken scrabbling at the cardboard folds to get to them.
Each pie has a smattering of icing sugar on. My particular pie had an uneven top and it looked better when in the box, better still in the shop. Not the best.
Now for the taste.
Quite dry pastry, the first fruity taste coming through is quite sharp, but not negatively. I can taste individual fruits which is pretty nice, but it isn’t blowing me away. The pies are not the biggest. Easy to finish, but I won’t remember them when I’m 6 pies into this blog.
