CO-OP Irresistible: Deliciously Zesty 4 Blood Orange & Chocolate Mince Pies

What a mouthful.

You can decide for yourselves how I meant that, later.

I wandered down the local village for lunch, after the thought of a baked potato didn’t fill me with enough joy. I persuaded my colleague to come along for good company.

There’s only one local shop, a Co Op. This one had a great selection of festive food on offer, so I bought 5 different items, in total.

The name and design of the pies appealed to me straight away. The box is black and gold and has a higher end, quality aesthetic.

Four pies will set you back £2.50 which is 63p per pie. It’s not too bad, because as I mentioned, they looked great. A small, neat pie, with chocolate frangipane covering, topped with nibbed almonds.

Once back at my desk, I opened them right up. The black box with smart gold festive design did shred up a bit, perhaps I haven’t quite mastered the art of opening a box?

The plastic tray had a plastic covering, so that your pies stayed in place and fresh.

I wasn’t sure what to expect, but i took my first bite.

my teeth sunk into soft, spongy frangipane… and kept going. and kept going until I found a devastatingly thin layer of mincemeat. Wow. It was so thin that any moisture had clearly been absorbed by the sponge that it was hard to identify as a mince pie.

I was disappointed. I also had a dry mouth afterwards.
