Okay, can you tell I’ve been to CO-OP recently?
These were £1.50.
There are few more items to come, but i’m all for it. They usually have decent food, so who am I to ignore that?
My phone camera is pretty good, but even it couldn’t make these look any less like they’d been dropped. off a building.
They’re ‘baked in store’ and they certainly have that nostalgic look to them, mincemeat right up to, and nearly coming through the pastry lid, a generous sugar dusting and the memory that homemade pies are often delicious.
It was this that made me opt for them.
There’s no fancy description either, simply “shortcrust pastry with a mincemeat filling”. There aren’t 35 separate ingredients you’ve got to try and taste while you’re taking less than a minute to eat the thing after a giant meal. It’s a Mince Pie. What’s in it? Mince(meat).
Apologies.
They’re wide and shallow. Is that good or bad? A bit bad. The sweet pastry top, gives way to non-sweet pastry walls, plus the mincemeat is very thin on the ground.
Overall they’re quite tasty and different to what’s normally offered at this time but I found my pie to be lacking a bit.
