The “Stollen Bite” Off

We’ve two packs of Stollen bites to try today, each with an exciting flavour.

On one hand we have No1 by Waitrose – Golden Limoncello Bites

Made with golden fruits and a marzipan centre, dipped in zingy Limoncello butter“. These were £4.

And on the other, Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Cherry and Kirsch Stollen Bites.

Moist and buttery loaded with Glacé cherries, sultanas, fresh citrus peel, fragrant marzipan and drenched in Kirsch syrup“. These were £3.75, so they’re comparable.

Both boxes look like (and cost) a considered purchase, but the Waitrose have a touch of understated glamour and the Sainsbury’s have gone more into the party atmosphere with bright colours and a more joyous colour scheme.

Let’s try Waitrose first.

A Light, buttery-cube of a piece, with the sugary edges of a yum yum. I was expecting a punch of lemon but it was more a harsh word of citrus.

3/5.

Now for Sainsbury’s and the Kirsh..

These are rectangular and darker in colour. The plastic wrapping was very hard to open, unlike the No1 ‘s.

But wow, they’re superbly moist and flavourful!! Rich and decadent in equal measure. I’m really impressed with the taste of them.

5/5. My sweet tooth & my moist tooth are both very happy, Sainsbury’s.
