ASDA Exceptional All Butter 4 Mince Pies

Wow, I had better not breathe too deeply near these..

Here we have a 4pk of Baked in Store Exceptional pies. ‘Exceptional’ is the name given to ASDA’s high quality line of products.

They’re £2.50 but they look deep. I’m seeing about an inch of product below the lid, and I’m excited by the prospect of lots of mincemeat greeting me.

The mincemeat has been matured for 3 months, and are encased in an all-butter orange zest pastry.

I’m quite excited to open these, because for a few years I’ve enjoyed these or a variation on these that no other ASDA pie has been able to match. Let’s see, though.

Good structure is provided by the solid pastry.

The mincemeat is on the wetter side but it’s not too much, and there’s a boozy alcoholic kick. There’s also a slight marmalade bitterness from the orange.

The added alcohol really is quite a kick, and I can understand why they mention on the box  that this product contains alcohol.
